چکیده
VOLUME 18, NUMBER 16 7 BUMC PROCEEDINGS 2005;18:7–12 Currently, molecular diagnostics plays an important role in the clinical management of a wide array of hematologic neoplasms, solid tumors, infectious diseases, and inherited genetic disorders. In this second part of our series, we conclude our review of esoteric techniques by summarizing some of the advances in the field of “proteomics.” We then turn our discussion to the role of molecular technology in the diagnosis, prognostication, and clinical management of lymphoid and leukemic neoplasms. The article also addresses the crucial role of molecular diagnostics in monitoring engraftment status following marrow transplantation.

Blastic Plasmacytoid Dendritic Cell Neoplasm; A Report of Three Cases
Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare hematodermic myeloid malignancy that is known to be derived from plasmacytoid dendritic cells which are characterized by expression of CD4, CD56, and more specific markers such as CD123. Here, the authors present three cases of BPDCN diagnosed in the past two years and address different available diagnostic modalities such as morpho...

Applications of flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry to diagnostic hematopathology.
OBJECTIVE Diagnostic hematopathology depends on the applications of flow cytometric immunophenotyping and immunohistochemical immunophenotyping combined with the cytomorphology and histologic features of each case. Select cases may require additional ancillary cytogenetic and molecular studies for diagnosis. The purpose of this review is to focus on the applications of flow cytometric and immun...
متن کاملVariations in pre-analytical FFPE sample processing and bioinformatics: challenges for next generation molecular diagnostic testing in clinical pathology
Molecular diagnostics within cellular pathology have been performed since the late 1990s and have developed to include a range of techniques including short tandem repeat (STR) identity analysis, classifi cation of tumours and clonality determinations in hematopathology. More recently, with the introduction of qPCR and more recently of next generation sequencing (NGS) as shown in Figure 1, prec...
متن کاملEvaluation of JAK2 (V617F) Mutation in Iranian Veterans with Delayed Complications of Sulphur Mustard Poisoning
Background: Sulfur mustard was the most widely applied chemical warfare agent by the Iraqi army in Iran–Iraq war (1983-1988). Considering the role of sulfur mustard toxicity in hematopoietic neoplasms and also new role of JAK2 mutation in these neoplasms, we assessed this mutation and delayed hematologic complications in veterans exposed to sulfur mustard. Methods: This case control st...
